Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav conducted a surprise inspection at a wheat procurement centre in Ujjain district on May 5, reviewing on-ground arrangements and issuing directions to officials. The visit took place at the Nagjhiri facility operated by Adani Agro, where the Chief Minister assessed storage, weighing, and procurement processes. Officials said the inspection is part of ongoing monitoring of procurement operations across the state during the harvest season.
During the visit, Yadav directed authorities to enhance warehouse storage capacity, citing the need to protect stored grain from unseasonal rainfall. He noted that increasing storage infrastructure could help minimise crop losses and improve efficiency in handling procurement volumes. The Chief Minister also reviewed facilities such as weighing systems and logistics arrangements, instructing officials to ensure that farmers face minimal inconvenience during the process. Similar inspections have reportedly been conducted in other districts, including Shajapur and Khargone, as part of efforts to assess procurement operations at multiple locations.
According to information shared during the visit, wheat procurement is currently ongoing across the state, with around 41 lakh metric tonnes of wheat reportedly procured so far. Authorities indicated that measures such as extending slot booking timelines and increasing the number of weighing points have been implemented to streamline operations. Payments to farmers are also being processed within a set timeframe, while procurement of other crops such as gram and lentils continues alongside wheat. The state government stated that it is monitoring procurement activities regularly, with local administrative units maintaining control rooms to address issues raised by farmers.
