Bengaluru: Heavy traffic congestion was reported on the Bengaluru-Tumakuru National Highway-4 following the closure of the Peenya Flyover for maintenance work.
The flyover, also known as the Shivakumara Swamiji Flyover, has been closed to vehicular movement from May 5 to May 8 for load testing after the completion of cable replacement work.
From Tuesday until 11 am on May 8, traffic has been restricted on both sides between the Kennametal upper ramp and SSR down ramp. As a result, vehicles were forced to use the service roads, leading to long queues and slow movement along routes entering and exiting the city.
Commuters faced delays, especially during morning and evening peak hours, with heavy congestion reported throughout the stretch.
Motorists travelling via Nagasandra, 8th Mile, Jalahalli Cross and Peenya Junction towards Goraguntepalya reportedly took more than 30 minutes to cover the distance.
Traffic buildup began from the toll gate at the city entry point, with several vehicles diverting through Dasarahalli interior roads and Pipeline Road to enter the city. This led to congestion even on smaller roads, where vehicles were seen lined up in multiple stretches.
Traffic police personnel were deployed to manage the situation and ease congestion.
