Security agencies in the state are on alert after two blasts near Border Security Force (BSF) areas in Punjab’s Jalandhar and Amritsar, while the Aam Aadmi Party seems to be using this incident for political purposes. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has made serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding these blasts and has started linking it with the upcoming elections.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said on Wednesday (May 6) that “such incidents happen wherever BJP wants to contest elections.” He alleged that these incidents could be part of preparations for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, “These small blasts are being investigated. This is BJP’s preparation for Punjab elections. BJP takes votes by spreading violence and fear among the people. I want to tell BJP to stop doing this. People of Punjab always want peace. Wherever BJP has to contest elections, it goes there and creates a fight.”
Let us tell you that the first blast took place in Jalandhar, where a scooter parked near the BSF headquarters exploded at around 8 pm. There is news of a delivery boy being injured in this blast. The sound of the explosion was heard far and wide, causing chaos in the area. Immediately after the incident, police, bomb disposal squad and forensic team reached the spot and started investigation. The area has been sealed.
A few hours after this incident, a second blast occurred at around 10:30 pm in Khasa area of Amritsar, which is located near an army camp. The sound of this explosion was heard far away and panic spread in the surrounding areas. However, no casualties have been reported in this incident.
After two consecutive blasts, Punjab Police and central agencies have intensified the investigation. Security has been tightened across the state and special vigil is being maintained in sensitive areas. Officials say all possible aspects are being investigated to find out the reasons behind both the incidents.
CCTV footage was found showing the time of the blast, with flames rising immediately and debris scattered on the road. A man standing near the scooter was seen running away immediately after the blast. Officials suspect that some of the scattered pieces may be parts of the scooter itself.
Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur said that it is too early to draw any conclusions. “Prima facie, the thing is that a scooter parked here caught fire. We are still investigating the ground situation,” he said. He further said that the scooter driver and another person are being interrogated, while CCTV footage of the area is being examined to ascertain the sequence of events.
Officials in both Jalandhar and Amritsar said they were investigating the circumstances of the blasts, with forensic teams examining the sites and investigators looking at available footage and interviewing people linked to the Jalandhar incident.
At present, it is not clear whether these blasts were accidental or part of some conspiracy. At the same time, there has been no official response from BJP yet on the Chief Minister’s allegations. Meanwhile, concerns over law and order and security have increased in the state, while investigating agencies are investigating the matter from every angle.
