Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday launched a ‘Shukrana Yatra’ from Anandpur Sahib, marking a public outreach initiative tied to recent legislative and cultural developments in the state. The event began with religious observances, with the Chief Minister stating that the yatra is being undertaken as an expression of gratitude. The launch drew participation from local residents and supporters, despite prevailing high temperatures in the region.
During the address, Mann referred to the proposed “Jagt Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Act 2026,” describing it as a legal framework aimed at addressing cases of sacrilege and ensuring strict penalties for offenders. He also mentioned recent legislative decisions, including holding an assembly session outside Chandigarh and granting special status to three cities in the state. These developments, he said, are linked to efforts to reinforce cultural and religious values alongside governance measures.
The Chief Minister acknowledged public participation in the yatra, particularly noting the turnout of women and local communities. He stated that the initiative reflects ongoing engagement between the government and citizens on issues related to heritage and governance. The event highlights a combination of political outreach and religious symbolism, with the yatra expected to continue across different parts of Punjab in the coming days.
