The Indian Golf Union (IGU), recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and the International Golf Federation, is preparing to send a three-member team to the esteemed Queen Sirikit Cup next month. This prestigious event will take place at the Sentul Highlands Golf Club in Bogor, Indonesia.

As per the IGU's press release, the tournament is scheduled from May 12 to 15, 2026. Organized by the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation in collaboration with The R&A, the competition will feature 15 countries, including the defending champions, South Korea. Other participating nations include Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Team Leadership and Player Highlights

Leading the Indian team is Guntas Kaur Sandhu, the 2025 Ladies Order of Merit champion, who has shown remarkable consistency in 2026 as well. The Chandigarh golfer boasts six victories and 17 top-10 finishes from 20 events in the ongoing IGU season. Recently, she clinched the Ladies and Combined A&B category titles at the IGU West Bengal Ladies & Junior Girls Championship in April. Joining her are Ceerat Kang from Haryana and Keya Badugu from Delhi, with Vandana Aggarwal serving as the team manager.

Guntas expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming tournament, stating, "It is a tremendous honor to represent my country. The Queen Sirikit Cup is a significant event in amateur golf, providing me with international exposure and the chance to compete against top players, which motivates me to enhance my skills. The IGU has been incredibly supportive in my development as a golfer."

A Legacy of Excellence

The Queen Sirikit Cup, officially known as the Amateur Ladies Asia-Pacific Invitational Golf Team Championship, was established in 1979 and has seen India participate since its inception. In 2023, Avani Prashanth made headlines by winning the individual title, breaking a 43-year title drought.

"Avani Prashanth's success in 2023 inspires me greatly. Witnessing an Indian golfer excel on the international stage fuels my motivation and belief that I can achieve similar success," remarked the 15-year-old.

Players Share Their Aspirations

Ceerat highlighted the importance of such events in pushing her beyond her comfort zone, stating, "Participating in the Queen Sirikit Cup is something I have always anticipated. It challenges me to adapt to various conditions and compete against elite international players. I am grateful to the IGU for their guidance throughout my golfing journey."

Keya, also 19, described the event as a 'special' milestone in her career, saying, "This is my second time traveling with the Indian team. Wearing the Indian blazer and representing my country in such a historically rich event is a unique feeling. I appreciate the IGU for providing me with these international opportunities and exposure to diverse golfing conditions."

A Platform for Future Stars

The Queen Sirikit Cup has served as a launching pad for numerous successful professional golfers, including Minjee Lee, Hannah Green, Sarah Kemp, Fiona Xu, Atthaya Thitikul, Seo Kyo-rim, and Anna Parsons.
