This time a big upheaval has been seen in the politics of Tamil Nadu. Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party TVK has become the largest party in the assembly elections by securing 108 seats. Political parties are busy setting political calculations to support TVK. In this sequence, a big stir has come to light from within AIADMK. The party’s legislative party meeting scheduled for today (6 May) has been postponed. Most of the party’s 47 MLAs are demanding support for TVK.

According to sources, most of the 47 MLAs of the party are demanding to support TVK. Indirectly, former CM and senior AIADMK leader Edappadi has been warned that if he does not take a decision soon, more than 30 MLAs will leave the party and support Vijay. CV Shanmugam is leading this rebellion, news is being received that AIADMK MLAs may reach his house in some time.

A meeting of newly elected AIADMK MLAs was to be held in Chennai on Wednesday (May 6), but it was postponed at the last moment. A section of the party is in favor of extending outside support to Vijay’s party TVK for at least a year. This situation is important because TVK has emerged as the largest party in the state assembly, but is short of the majority mark. 118 seats are required for majority in the 234-seat Tamil Nadu Assembly, while TVK has won 108 seats.

TVK had contested the elections alone, hence now talks with parties of both DMK and AIADMK camps have intensified. According to sources, DMK alliance ally Congress, which has won five seats, is believed to be more inclined to support Vijay. It is being told that Rahul Gandhi calling Vijay and congratulating him is also being seen as a sign of possible cooperation.

AIADMK alliance ally PMK, which has won four seats, also seems ready to extend support. There is talk of a meeting between PMK President Anbumani Ramadoss and Vijay soon. Vijay has already expressed his consent to the coalition government, which has increased the hopes of small parties getting a place in the cabinet. If AIADMK gets outside support, Vijay can easily win majority and retain a strong hold on the government.
