
New Delhi, 6 May. In the presence of Vietnamese President To Lam and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a visit to India, steps were taken to further strengthen bilateral relations at Hyderabad House on Wednesday. In this sequence, MoUs were signed between the two countries in 13 different areas and important memoranda were exchanged. After this, in the joint press conference, PM Modi explained the importance of these agreements.
PM Modi welcomed Lam by saying, ‘President Toe Lam is welcome to India. After becoming the President of Vietnam, his coming together with high level delegation and business leaders shows how much priority he gives to us.
Highlighting the common relations between the two countries from Bodh Gaya, the Prime Minister further said, ‘He started his visit to India from Bodh Gaya. It reflects the spiritual traditions of both our countries. We are transforming our relationships into concrete results. There is importance of heritage and development in the partnership between India and Vietnam. Last year, when Buddhist relics went to Vietnam from India, more than 15 million people visited them, which is 15 percent of the total population of Vietnam.
He said, ‘To keep our shared heritage alive, we are renovating the Me Son and Nhan Tver temples of Vietnam’s ancient Champa civilization. Now we will also digitize the manuscripts of Champa civilization, and preserve this priceless heritage for future generations.
bilateral trade in a decade 16 has reached billion dollars
Prime Minister Modi also mentioned the strengthening trade relations. He said, ‘Our cooperation in every field will reach new levels. Bilateral trade between India and Vietnam has doubled in the last decade to reach $16 billion. Today we have taken many important decisions to take it to $25 billion by 2030. Very soon Vietnam will taste India’s grapes and pomegranates. We are very happy that air connectivity between the two countries is continuously increasing.
Regarding the agreement reached between the two countries in many important areas, PM Modi said, ‘The MoU between our drug authorities will now increase access to Indian medicines in Vietnam. Export of India’s agricultural, fishery and animal products to Vietnam is also going to become easier.
Vietnam is the main pillar of India’s Act East Policy and Vision Ocean
Referring to the Act East Policy, PM Modi said, ‘Vietnam is a main pillar of India’s Act East Policy and Vision Ocean. We also have the same understanding in the Indo-Pacific region. We will continue to contribute to the rule of law, peace, stability and prosperity through our strengthened defense and security cooperation. With the cooperation of Vietnam, India will also broaden its relations with ASEAN.
