Tough class from Shreyas Iyer waiting in dugout? PBKS fielders awful fielding show against SRH stunned captain

Shreyas Iyer will finally be taking care of his fielders after the match! Punjab Kings have been absolutely awful on the field amidst the batting carnage by the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Shreyas Iyer himself took the first catch of Abhishek Sharma, and then Marco Jansen took Travis Head's catch. And since then, it has been horrendous for the side in Hyderbad.

In 10 overs, PBKS fielders gave three lives to the SRH batters, with Heinrich Klassen himself getting it twice. The first drop came from Cooper Connolly when he dropped Ishan Kishan for just 1 run.

The SRH keeper tried to pull at the deep off Lockie Ferguson. Cooper went for the catch, but it bounced over his palms. However, Cooper recovered soon and dove to stop the ball, giving just a run. But it was no doubt a crucial wicket. And the catch being dropped left Shreyas totally stunned. Ishan Kishan later scored a half century in just 28 balls.

The second catch dropped was by Shashan Singh. Yesh, Shashank again! Shashank dropped multiple catches in the last two matches, and got dropped in the next two. He came back to the side and dropped Heinrich on just 3 runs.

It happened in the 9th over, when Shash dropped an absolute dolly after Klassen went high and straight at the long leg. He didn't just drop the catch but leaked a boundary!

And then Ferguson joined the list, dropping Klassen again, but off Yuzvendra Chahal in the 11th over at the fine leg. Ferguson tried to take the catch on his right, and the ball simply passed through his hands. At this point, Punjab has a catch-dropping rate of 69%

And in the same over, the final ball, Prabhsimran Singh missed a stumping, giving Kishan a life. Even though it was a tough chance as the ball bounced over his shoulders, it left Chahal frustrated.

Why are Punjab Kings dropping so many catches?

During the match, commentators pointed out that Punjab Kings have been practicing most of their practice under bright daylight. And this has its effect while fielding under the floodlight.

But how does it affect the catching? Notably, the ball and the conditions normally feel different in different conditions. The two basic reasons are

  • The stadium has high-intensity lights, which often create a halo or "bloom" around the ball, making it difficult for the fielders to predict the edge. During the daylight practices, such illusions are unlikely.
  • We often hear that fielders lose trajectory. This is mostly due to the dead zones and multiple shadows caused by the floodlights that make fielders lose track when the ball changes its speed.
  •

Apart from that, the light can directly affect the fielders' eyes. Unless they practice under it, it's possible for them to get blinded by it.
