BBC News presenter Thomas Mackintosh shared a sad update on social media. The broadcast journalist announced it was his "final shift" today. He famously got hitched live on TV as part of an extra special news broadcast two years ago.

In a candid statement shared on X he held up a photo of his staff pass as clocked in for the final time on Wednesday after more than nine years. Thomas was swiftly inundated with messages from his former colleagues, who wished him well.

"Time to tap in one last time ... after 9.5 years today's my final shift at BBC News," he explained. "It really has been an honour and a privilege to have worked here for nearly a decade alongside so many talented and tenacious colleagues."

Thomas added: "I'll be watching and championing from afar."

BBC News correspondent Dan Johnson replied: "Ah I'm very sorry to see you go! We'll miss you but best wishes for whatever comes next. Go well."

BBC journalist June Kelly penned: "Good luck Thomas, always great working with you."

"Best of luck for whatever comes next," a third added.

In a follow up message shared on Instagram, he wrote: "After 9.5 years at BBC News today is my final shift at New Broadcasting House. It really has been an honour and a privilege to work here and alongside so many talented, tenacious colleagues. I'll miss this place and will be immensely grateful for everything it has taught me!

As part of a very special day at the Old Marylebone Town Hall, Thomas was one of 100 couples tying the knot in order to mark 100 years since the very first wedding held at the iconic venue.

The first wedding took place at the venue in 1924.

Footage of Thomas gearing up to marry his wife Paige was shown as he took a break from reporting on the big day in order to enjoy his very own big day.

Airing Thomas' wedding, a BBC News banner read across the screen: "Breaking: The BBC's very own Thomas Mackintosh is now a married man."
