In match no.49 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) hosted the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad. During the match, Heinrich Klaasen was given a chance as his catch was dropped by Shashank Singh, yet again. The PBKS cricketer did not have the best of outings in the field. The incident happened during the 8.4th over, as Yuzvendra Chahal was bowling to Klaasen, and the South Africa batter miscued, and Shashank Singh, who was fielding at the backward square-leg, dropped an easy catch. Shashank Singh, who had dropped catches in earlier games as well, will be furious with himself for the way he has fielded this season.

It seems the ball is flying everywhere- Ricky Ponting

After the catch dropped, Ricky Ponting was there at the first innings, talking to the commentators. He said, "Poor Shashank Singh, it seems the ball is flying everywhere he’s going. Shashank has worked hard on his fielding after returning from a hamstring injury." "I am pretty close to throwing the microphone on the field,” Ponting said after the third dropped catch in quick succession. It has been a tough night for the PBKS side as they have dropped three easy chances and missed one stumping. Previously in the game, Cooper Connolly dropped a sitter against Ishan Kishan, and the Southpaw was yet again dropped by Lockie Ferguson as both in times of Shashank and Lockie it was Yuzvendra Chahal the bowler.

PBKS having a tough time on the field

In the same over, Prabhsimran Singh missed a tough stumping chance as the ball bounced above his shoulder. As the runs keep flowing for the Orange Army after the three drop catches, with Klaasen and Kishan smacking the PBKS bowlers all over the park. Kishan have brought up his fifty in 28 balls. PBKS have the best fielders in IPL; however, the catching has not been as efficient as it should have been, as the drops tally extends to 14 this season. They have the second-lowest catch percentage (70%), which will be a concern for the head coach, Ricky Ponting, who himself has been a fantastic fielder.

Sunrisers Hyderabad are firing all guns blazing

Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to field first, as they made a couple of changes, Lockie Ferguson and Shashank Singh coming in. After being invited to bat first, the SRH openers, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, gave a blistering start. Scoring 54 runs inside four overs. Abhishek Sharma was dismissed on the score of 35 off 13 balls, and his partner also departed for 38 off 19 balls. Since then, Ishan Kishan and Klaasen took charge and stitched an 88-run partnership as the former was back scoring 55 runs.
