What exactly are the allegations against the company?

Zee Entertainment Enterprises has made serious allegations that Nykaa has used Zee’s copyrighted songs on Instagram Reels to promote its products. The company has expressed its deep displeasure regarding the entire matter. Moreover, this action of Nayak is considered to be a violation of music licensing regulations of ‘Meta Platforms’. But in a latest development in the case, Nayak’s legal advisors have informed the Delhi High Court that 12 flagged links have been completely removed. For now, though, the case has emerged as a new challenge in the world of big brands. The next hearing of this case will be held on May 26.

The discussion on the financial condition of the companies continues

According to reports, its parent company ‘PB Fintech Ltd.’ The company ‘Nykaa’ operating under the e-commerce market has a very strong position. Meanwhile, the market capitalization of this company is approximately ₹83,505 crore. However, the company’s troubles are expected to increase. According to some reports, the company has previously faced serious allegations of data theft and staff cuts to a former executive. On the other hand, ‘Zee Entertainment’ has a market capitalization of around ₹8,600 to ₹8,700 crore and a P/E ratio of 13.9 to 15.5. Moreover, the shares of this company have seen significant fluctuations in the past few days.

What might be the legal implications of this for both companies?

For a large company like ‘Nykaa’, this appears to pose a significant legal risk. While the company has undoubtedly achieved unprecedented success in creating jobs for millions of people, any verdict regarding copyright infringement could have a profound impact on its marketing operations. On the other hand—in the case of ‘Zee Entertainment’, this claim of copyright can, for now at least, be seen as just another aspect of their ongoing legal process.
