Kathmandu: Now a digital system is being implemented in the Parliament of Nepal to record the attendance of public representatives. Under this new system, the attendance of MPs will be recorded through digital medium instead of the traditional signature system.
For this, biometric details of MPs are being collected. The Parliament Secretariat has informed all the MPs to compulsorily attend the biometric process.
During this process, fingerprints, digital identity information and other necessary details of the MPs are being taken, so that their presence in the Parliament can be automatically recorded through the electronic system.
According to the secretariat, along with the collection of biometric details, formal photographs of the MPs will also be taken. These photographs will be used in official records, identity cards and digital profiles of Parliament. MPs have been requested to be present wearing formal attire and wearing the logo of the Federal Parliament.
According to Secretariat spokesperson Ekram Giri, with the implementation of the electronic attendance system, accurate records of the actual presence of MPs in Parliament meetings can be maintained. Besides, information about the absent MPs will also be available immediately. This is expected to increase transparency and accountability in the functioning of Parliament.
