Tragic Loss in Indian Cricket

Amanpreet Singh Gill, a former under-19 cricketer from India and a medium-fast bowler for Punjab, sadly passed away on May 6 at the age of 36 in Chandigarh. His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the cricket community. The cause of his passing remains unknown. Gill was a teammate of Virat Kohli in the under-19 squad.

During his career, Amanpreet played six first-class matches for Punjab, taking 11 wickets. He was also part of the Punjab franchise in his debut season and later served as a member of the senior selection committee.

The Punjab Cricket Association expressed its condolences on social media, stating, "We are deeply saddened by the passing of former cricketer and senior selection committee member Amanpreet Singh Gill. We pray for the peace of his soul and strength for his family during this difficult time."

Yuvraj Singh, a two-time World Cup-winning all-rounder, also paid tribute to Gill, saying, "I was deeply saddened to hear about Amanpreet Singh Gill's passing. We shared the dressing room in our early days. He was a humble, hardworking player who loved cricket. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. Om Shanti."

In 2007, Amanpreet represented India in five youth ODIs and one youth Test match, where he notably took the wicket of former Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera. However, he did not make the cut for the Indian under-19 team that won the World Cup in 2008 under Kohli's captaincy.

The Punjab Kings also expressed their sorrow on Instagram, stating, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Amanpreet Singh Gill, who represented Punjab and was part of the Punjab Kings family. Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and the entire cricket community."
