Manchester United should find themselves with considerable leverage in the transfer market following their return to the Champions League. However, there remains a great deal of work to be done. The additional fixtures will likely necessitate a larger squad, and that's before considering those, like Casemiro, who are set to depart. The club stands to make substantial savings on their wage bill when the Brazilian and Jadon Sancho move on following the expiry of their contracts, with interest in other squad members also anticipated.

United have previously had to battle to retain captain Bruno Fernandes, and the Portuguese midfielder has once again attracted admiring glances. With the World Cup getting under way on June 11, completing all planned transfer business early could prove challenging. Appointing the club's next permanent manager may well take precedence, however, with decision-makers yet to determine whether they retain interim boss Michael Carrick or pursue someone with greater top-flight experience.

Here's a look at the latest headlines coming out of Old Trafford...

Fernandes eyed by Galatasaray

United skipper Fernandes remains a coveted target for Galatasaray, according to Sky Sports Germany. However, the Turkish giants are reportedly pessimistic about their prospects now that United have secured Champions League football.

Gala, who claimed the Turkish Super Lig title last season, sit four points ahead of nearest rivals Fenerbahce with two fixtures remaining this campaign. They are understood to be pursuing a new No.10 as well as a more defensive-minded midfielder.

The Istanbul outfit have shown little hesitation in spending heavily in recent windows, snapping up the likes of Victor Osimhen and Leroy Sane.

Fernandes is no stranger to their list of targets, though they acknowledge a transfer will prove more difficult now that his current club have returned to the Champions League.

Casemiro prepared to take wage hit

Casemiro will not be a United player next season, despite an impressive second half of the campaign leaving some supporters hopeful he might reconsider his decision to depart.

The Brazilian is yet to determine his next destination, though a move to Major League Soccer has been strongly rumoured.

Inter Miami are amongst the clubs monitoring the situation, with Sky Sports reporting that the midfielder would be willing to accept a considerable reduction in his wages to relocate to Florida.

It has been claimed that part of his preference stems from a desire to play alongside Argentina superstar Lionel Messi, following years spent on opposing sides of the Clasico rivalry.

Messi and former Real Madrid stalwart Casemiro have faced each other on 20 occasions for club and country, with each emerging victorious eight times.

Inter Miami are seeking a new defensive midfielder following Sergio Busquets' retirement, though rivals LA Galaxy have also been linked with a move.
