A shocking boat accident occurred late at night in Hamirpur district, Uttar Pradesh, causing widespread panic. The boat capsized in the middle of the Yamuna River, resulting in the drowning of nine individuals on board. Miraculously, a man and two children managed to swim to safety, but five children and one woman remain unaccounted for.

Rescue Operations Underway

Upon receiving news of the incident, senior district officials quickly arrived at the scene. With the assistance of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), a rescue operation lasting 11 hours successfully recovered the bodies of one woman and two children from the river. Efforts to locate the remaining four children are still ongoing.

Circumstances Leading to the Capsize

The incident took place in Kutubpur village, located in the Kurara police station area. On Tuesday, a wedding was held for Shraju's daughter, Anjali. Following the wedding, around 6 PM on Wednesday, Vishnu, along with his wife, took nine relatives across the river to their fields to enjoy watermelon and cantaloupe. After their meal, they loaded the boat with fruits and began their return journey.

Midway through their trip, the boat suddenly lost balance and capsized. The boatman, Dhiru, managed to save himself and two others, but the remaining six individuals went missing. This morning, the bodies of one woman and two children were recovered.

A Family in Mourning

The wedding festivities had gathered relatives from near and far, creating a joyful atmosphere. However, the celebration turned to sorrow as three funeral pyres were prepared in the same home that had just celebrated a wedding. The boat was overloaded, which contributed to its instability, leading to the tragic drowning of the group.

Despite the efforts of Dhiru, who saved two people, the rest were lost to the river. The recovery of the three bodies has plunged the family into deep mourning.

Challenges in the Rescue Efforts

Following the capsizing, local officials, including the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, arrived promptly at the scene. Teams from NDRF and SDRF were summoned immediately. Rescue operations commenced under searchlights, but darkness hampered progress.

This morning, strong winds and rain further complicated the rescue efforts. Nevertheless, the bodies of one woman and two children have been retrieved, leading to a somber atmosphere in the village. To maintain order, a significant police presence has been deployed, and the search for the remaining individuals continues.
