Daniel Osbourne has enjoyed quite the turbulent love life on Coronation Street - and it turns out actor Rob Mallard once dated one of his fellow soap stars in real life.

Rob made his first appearance on the ITV soap in 2016, stepping into the role of Daniel, the son of iconic character Ken Barlow (William Roache). Over the years, the character has been no stranger to romantic entanglements.

Earlier this year, he embarked on a romance with scheming Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon), who had at the time been grooming teenager Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) and was even carrying his child.

Megan's disturbing crimes were ultimately uncovered, leaving Daniel appalled and devastated that he had developed feelings for her, and equally horrified that he had failed to recognise what the predator had been doing all along.

Since the shocking truth emerged, Daniel has been left reeling, and in Thursday's episode (May 7), events took a dramatic twist. During the instalment, Daniel confronted Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan), accusing her of cheating with her poem by using AI, reports the Mirror.

Hope fired back with a cutting remark about Megan, and after Daniel instructed her to rewrite the poem, she composed one mocking Daniel's relationship with Megan. Daniel attempted to snatch the paper from her hand, prompting Hope to accuse him of assault, with Mrs Crawshaw (Carla Mendonça) stepping in to demand an explanation.

Away from the cobbles, Daniel actor Rob Mallard's personal life has frequently captured public attention over the years. Having joined the long-running soap in 2016, he embarked on a romance with fellow cast member Daniel Brocklebank, who has portrayed vicar Billy Mayhew since 2014.

The pair went public with their relationship when Rob picked up a British Soap Award for Best Newcomer in 2017. Taking to the stage, Rob spoke warmly about Daniel in his acceptance speech, declaring: "Even though this is fantastic, Dan, you're the best thing I've ever taken home."

However, just a few months later, Rob and Daniel called time on their romance, citing the strain of both working together and maintaining a relationship simultaneously.

A source told The Sun in July 2017: "It was a lot of pressure for both of them to be working on the same show and going out in the end something had to give. They decided to part ways a couple of weeks ago but they're still great friends and hope to remain that way."

Following their split, Rob found love once more with fellow actor Matthew Martin. Matthew is no stranger to the screen himself, and last year he made an appearance on Coronation Street, taking on the role of a police officer who arrested Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) in a dramatic closing scene.

Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX
