Dhamtari district has emerged as a model in the implementation of the 'World's Largest Grain Storage Scheme'. Modern warehouses with a capacity of 2500-2500 metric tons will be built in four PACS committees in the district. Dhamtari has so far purchased 97 thousand quintals of gram and has taken almost 50 percent of the total purchase of the state in its name.
Raipur, 07 May 2026/ Dhamtari district has emerged as a model in implementing the 'world's largest grain storage scheme' in Chhattisgarh. Under this ambitious initiative of the Central and State Government to strengthen the cooperative sector, Dhamtari has not only expanded the storage infrastructure but has also left the entire state behind by creating a new history in the field of gram procurement.
2500 metric ton mega warehouses will be built in 4 PACS committees
For effective implementation of the scheme, 'Warehouse Hiring Assurance Letters' have been issued by NCCF Raipur to four major Primary Agricultural Credit Cooperative Societies (PACS) of the district. State-of-the-art storage system will be ensured in Anwari, Kosmarra, Potiyadih (Amdi) and Koliyari committees. The capacity of each warehouse will be 2500 metric tonnes, which is being specially prepared for scientific storage of gram.
Dhamtari's dominance in gram procurement: Preparation to exceed the target
Dhamtari district, proving its agricultural capacity and administrative promptness, has so far completed the purchase of 97 thousand quintals of gram. The initial target has been set at 1 lakh quintals, despite the current situation being close to the target, procurement is continuing. Nearly 50 percent of the total gram procurement in the entire Chhattisgarh state has been recorded from Dhamtari district alone.
Administrative activism and upcoming strategy
To speed up the scheme, the process of agreements and MOUs has been completed rapidly. To resolve the technical problems at the ground level, preparations are being made for a high level meeting through video conferencing of RCS officers and PACS managers with NCCF Headquarters, New Delhi. It is noteworthy that the excellence shown by Dhamtari district in the procurement and storage system of gram is the result of better coordination between the hard work of the farmers and the administration. This will prevent wastage of food grains and farmers will get the right price for their produce.
What is the 'world's largest grain storage scheme'?
The main objective of this scheme, launched by the Government of India on 31 May 2023, is to set up storage, processing units and custom hiring centers through PACS in the villages itself. This will not only reduce transportation costs, but will also prevent wastage of grains due to lack of storage. This success of Dhamtari today remains a center of inspiration for other districts of the state.
