Archery World Cup: Women’s team secures medal after defeating Korea, men’s team loses

The final match of the women’s team will be against China

Shanghai. India had a mixed performance in the second phase of the Archery World Cup on Thursday as the women’s recurve team defeated record 10-time Olympic champion South Korea in the semi-finals to secure its first medal but the men’s team lost to Bangladesh in the first round.

India’s challenge in the mixed team category ended when Dheeraj Bommadevara and Ankita Bhakat lost to Brazil in the shoot-off in the second round. Lost by 5. Women’s team members Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat and Kumkum Mohod defeated Korea by 5.1 in the semi-finals. Now he will face China in the gold medal match on Sunday.

But Korea has sent an inexperienced team here as its focus is on the Asian Games to be held in Japan after four months. The Korean team had two newcomers, Lee Yunji and Oh Yejin, while reigning world champion Kang Chaeyoung was the only experienced archer.

Earlier, the Indian women’s team defeated Uzbekistan 6-2 (53-56, 57-54, 55-54, 55-51) in the first round. Won 5.4 over Vietnam in a tense shootoff in the quarter-finals.

The performance of the men’s team was disappointing, losing the first set by 52.55. In the second set, Bangladesh tied it at 54.54. The score of both the teams in the third set was 53. Bangladesh trio Abdur Rahman Alif, Ram Krishna Saha and Mohammad Mishad Pradhan won the fourth set 57.53.
