Kolkata: While the high political drama continued in West Bengal over Mamata Banerjee refusing to step down as the Chief Minister, the state cabinet has officially been dissolved following constitutional protocols. This effectively suggests that, despite all the rhetoric, the TMC supremo no longer remains at the top post in her state.

West Bengal Governor R.N Ravi officially dissolved the state legislative assembly and dismissed the cabinet to pave the way for the new assembly, days after the BJP swept the state winning more than 200 seats in the May 4 assembly elections, ending the 15-year rule of the Mamata Banerjee led party.

Drama Continues

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, refusing to step down, Mamata Banerjee indicated that she will move the Supreme Court over alleged poll rigging in the assembly elections. As per reports, the decision to move the top court was taken at a party meeting held at Kalighat on Wednesday. Banerjee reportedly told party leaders that it was time for them to “stand together,” insisting that the poll verdict does not reflect the will of the people.

The TMC supremo had earlier dismissed the outcome of the election as manipulated, even going to the extent of claiming that her party had secured a “moral victory." Banerjee claimed that the saffron party's first win in Bengal was a result of looting of votes and EVM tampering. She even claimed that the poll body had colluded with the saffron side to unseat her.

“I will not resign. I did not lose, and I will not go to Raj Bhavan- the question simply does not arise. We did not lose this election; this was a forced attempt to defeat us. They may use the Election Commission to defeat us officially, but morally, we won," she reportedly said.
