The Dilemma of the Old Man and His Donkey

Many individuals have a tendency to interfere in the affairs of others. Whenever you attempt something, they are quick to offer their opinions or mock your efforts. However, as the saying goes, 'People will always talk.' It is essential to follow your own instincts. Listen to everyone, but act according to what you believe is right; otherwise, you may never find happiness in life. Let's illustrate this with a story.

Once upon a time, an elderly man was walking to the market with his son and their donkey. Along the way, a passerby remarked, 'What’s the use of that donkey if it’s not carrying anything? Why don’t one of you ride it?' Taking this advice, the old man allowed his son to sit on the donkey.

As they continued, another person commented, 'Look at that lazy boy riding the donkey while his old father walks behind!' Hearing this, the old man decided to get on the donkey himself. Shortly after, a group of women saw them and said, 'Look at that old man! He’s enjoying himself while making the poor boy walk. He should let the child ride too.' The old man then allowed his son to join him on the donkey.

Soon after, another passerby exclaimed, 'What cruel people! Two of them are riding the donkey together. Have they no compassion?' Frustrated, the old man thought, 'What should I do? If I don’t ride, they stare at us. If one of us rides, they criticize. If we both ride, they call us heartless.' In the end, the old man and his son decided to walk the rest of the way without burdening the donkey.

This story teaches us a valuable lesson: you will encounter all types of people in the world. They will criticize you for trivial matters, offer unsolicited advice, and tell you what to do. However, it’s crucial to do what feels right to you. Don’t make decisions based on others' opinions; otherwise, you will always regret it. Listen to everyone, but follow your own heart.
