Patna. The cabinet expansion of Bihar government under the leadership of Samrat Chaudhary has intensified the discussion of new social equations in the politics of the state. With the swearing in of 32 new ministers, 35 posts in the 36-member cabinet have now been filled and only one seat is left vacant. In this expansion, there was a clear attempt to achieve ethnic and social balance along with power sharing.
The Extremely Backward Class (EBC) has got the highest representation in the cabinet. A total of 9 ministers have been made from this category, which clearly indicates that the government is working on a strategy to tap the EBC vote bank, which is one of the largest social groups in Bihar. An attempt has been made to maintain social balance by giving place to 7 leaders each from OBC and Dalit communities.
Women also got important place
Five women ministers have been included in the new cabinet. Of these, three faces are from JDU and two from BJP. The move is being seen as an effort to increase women representation. The government has tried to convey the message that the role of women in political participation is continuously increasing.
Strong presence of Rajput community
The representation of Rajput community was most visible in caste equations. Four leaders from this community have got ministerial posts. Apart from this, efforts have been made to cater to all the major social classes by giving representation to Bhumihar, Brahmin, Vaishya, Dalit, Muslim and Yadav communities. Many prominent leaders from the Vaishya community were given a chance, while Jama Khan, as the only face from the Muslim community, was made the minister again. Ramkripal Yadav has been included in the cabinet on behalf of the Yadav community.
Allies also got respect
NDA allies were also given adequate participation in the cabinet. BJP got 15 ministers, while JDU got 13 seats. Apart from this, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha and Rashtriya Lok Morcha also got representation. This clearly showed an effort to maintain balance within the alliance.
