Dead body sent to ancestral home Chandipur
Sources say that after being shot, there was a delay in taking him to the hospital, due to which his condition deteriorated rapidly. After the post-mortem was completed, Chandranath Rath’s body was taken out from the mortuary of Barasat Hospital and sent to his ancestral home in Chandipur via ambulance. A large number of supporters and local people were present outside the hospital. Heavy police force and central security forces were deployed to handle the situation. During this time, Forward Bloc leader Sanjeev Chatterjee also reached the hospital and paid tribute to the deceased.
The incident took place in Madhyamgram area of North 24 Parganas district on Wednesday night. It is alleged that bike-riding attackers suddenly opened fire on Chandranath Rath’s car in Dohdia area. At that time, driver Buddhadev was also present in the car with him. After the attack, both were taken to the local hospital, where doctors declared Chandranath dead. The seriously injured driver has been admitted to the hospital located at EM Bypass in Kolkata for better treatment.
Blood marks on driver seat and front seat
Immediately after the incident, a team of police and forensic experts reached the spot. The investigating officers collected many important samples from the car. Traces of blood were found on the driver seat and front seat. The forensic team thoroughly examined various parts inside the car and later the vehicle was sent to another place for investigation.
The investigation of this high-profile murder has now been handed over to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which includes state police and CID officers. State police chief Siddhanath Gupta said that during the investigation, a suspicious four-wheeler has been recovered, whose number plate is said to be from Siliguri. However, the police suspect that the number plate may be fake. Some bullets and empty cartridges have also been recovered from the spot, investigation of which is ongoing.
