Graham Norton's new show, The Neighbourhood, has cost me 11 hours of my life that I'll never get back. The new ITV reality gameshow was expected to be a huge hit when it debuted back in April, but left many viewers, including me, feeling very disappointed. The broadcaster reportedly threw a silly amount of cash at it, as a custom set made up of a realistic-looking neighbourhood was a temporary home to different households competing for a £250,000 prize. It was a mix of skill and popularity as each home fought to avoid the dreaded removal. According to reports, ITV "threw everything" at the show - but it still wasn't enough.
It seems that even ITV is disappointed in itself. After drawing in less than a million viewers, the new programme has been yanked from its primetime spot at 9pm to 10.45pm - being replaced by Davina McCall's Long Lost Family and an episode of Beat The Chasers: Celebrity Special, which was initially aired in 2021.
A spokesperson for ITV confirmed the schedule shift as they said: "The full box set of The Neighbourhood is now available to stream on ITVX. Additionally, the show will continue to air in an evening slot on ITV."
By the end of the series, I wasn't rooting for anyone to win, and half the contestants were barely memorable. The only ones who made an impact were the Lozman Sturrocks - and that's only because they should have been booted out a lot earlier.
Normally, with a reality series such as Big Brother, I am fully invested. But ITV just failed to hit the mark here, and something seemed to be completely missing.
I was hoping for real people and real bonds, but as soon as I tuned in, I recognised the Scouse Haus instantly - influencer twins from Liverpool who make a living from cringey vix pops. And that's when I knew that the show was less than authentic.
I tuned in, hoping to find a show that would return year after year and could help mark my summer viewing. Instead, it turned out to be something I wished I'd never bothered watching and will definitely never watch again.
