Still Open All Hours starKulvinder Ghir has shared his "great disappointment" following the cancellation of the popular BBC show.
In February 2023, the BBC announced that no additional episodes were planned, bringing the series to a close after six seasons and 41 episodes. But in a special documentary, Open All Hours: Inside Out, the cast share their memories of the beloved show as share touching moments with viewers.
Celebrating 50 years since it first aired, the tribute revisits all 67 episodes, featuring classic behind-the-scenes unseen outtakes and rare behind-the-scenes footage.
Sir David Jason fronts an all-star line-up of cast and crew, including Johnny Vegas, Tim Healy, Maggie Ollerenshaw, Kulvinder, Barbara Flynn, Nina Wadia, and creator Roy Clarke, who reflect on fond and humorous memories of the much-loved sitcom, which came to an unexpected end during lockdown.
During the show, narrated by Diane Morgan, it was understood that the cast were preparing to film a seventh series as series six came to a close in 2019.
But due to Covid-19 and lockdown the show never received the send-off most expected with the BBC finally deciding the call time on the sitcom completely.
Sharing his thoughts, actor Kulvinder said: "It was a great disappointment that we didn't get to say our goodbyes. You wanted maybe just one more episode."
Benidorm actor Johnny, who played Eric in the show, also mentioned that he thought it was a part of his life that "would never end".
In December 2024, lead actor Sir David revealed that writer Roy Clarke had completed a script for a potential final episode and expressed his hope that it might eventually be filmed to give the series a "proper" conclusion.
In a recent interview with UKTV, Sir David was asked if he had any reservations about doing a reboot.
The 86-year-old star said: "No, I don't think I did. I think revisiting Open All Hours was something that we all looked forward to. We would look forward to if it was to go again, because it was just so much fun to do and so much fun to be entertaining the audience, which after all first love of acting."
