Traveling with pets now becomes easier

Compared to before, traveling with your pet has now become much simpler. Nowadays, pet-friendly travel facilities are also available in autos, buses and cabs. Even in trains, people can take their pets. Earlier, traveling with pets in trains was a challenge, but now the facility of ‘Pet Box’ in Vande Bharat Sleeper trains has made it much easier.

What is pet box?

In simple terms, a pet box is a safe and separate space inside the train. Here pets can travel comfortably in a controlled and safe environment. For the convenience of passengers, it is usually kept near the last coach of the train, so that other passengers do not face any problem.

There is currently no online option available for booking Pet Box. For this you will have to go to the parcel or luggage office of the railway station. Keep in mind that it is necessary to reach the station at least 3 hours before the departure of the train, as the verification of documents and other formalities are completed there. Once the process is complete, you will be given a separate ticket for your pet.

It is mandatory to keep some documents ready before going on a journey. You must have a fitness certificate issued by a Vet, made within 24-48 hours before the journey. Additionally, keep the pet’s vaccination records with you. If these documents are not there, the booking may be cancelled.

Know these conditions before traveling

To avail the facility of Pet Box, you must have a confirmed ticket of the same train. If your ticket is in RAC or waiting list, you will not be able to use this facility. Talking about the expenses, the rent for the pet is determined on the basis of its weight. Generally, it is charged at ₹30 per kg, which has to be paid at the time of booking.

Precautions during travel

Pet box facility is not available on all routes and trains, so please check before travelling. If you are traveling with family or friends, take special care that the pet does not face any inconvenience. Avoid traveling with pets during the summer season, and only take them with you when absolutely necessary.
