Tehran: News has emerged of a major agreement between the US and Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz. According to the report, both the countries have agreed to ease the US naval blockade and in return reopen the strategically important ‘Strait of Hormuz’ in a phased manner. According to Arabic media reports, this agreement was reached on Thursday after the increased tension between the two countries. At the beginning of the US-Iran conflict, Iran had closed the Strait of Hormuz, which had a major impact on the global energy supply and disrupted the supply of oil and gas.

Sources were quoted as saying, “An agreement has been reached to ease the blockade and gradually open the Strait of Hormuz. Ships stranded in the Strait will be allowed to pass in the coming hours.” The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes. A large portion of global oil supplies pass through it. The closure of this route had led to an energy crisis in the international market and massive fluctuations in oil prices.

It is believed that this agreement between the two countries could provide relief to the global market and maritime trade. However, no official statement has yet been issued by the US and Iran on this agreement. It should be noted that during the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a US fighter jet attacked an Iranian oil tanker. The aircraft targeted the tanker’s rudder, i.e., the directional control part. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump also warned of a major attack on Iran if a deal was not reached.
