I've tried over 30 vacuum cleaners-this little-known affordable brand is the best

Vacuuming is one of those household tasks that most people would rather avoid. It's repetitive and time-consuming, but it needs to be done regularly to maintain a clean home. That's why having a great vacuum matters, whether you go for a lighter machine, a cordless design, or one that's easy to store.

I've tried plenty of vacuum cleaners over the years, with some standing out for their price point and others for their performance. But one which I always go back to, and one which is my ultimate favourite, is the Levoit LVAC-300.

The Levoit LVAC-300 is one of those vacuums which makes cleaning feel easy. It's lightweight, super simple to use, and feels way more premium in real life than you'd expect for the price.

From the moment I picked it up, I noticed that it was easy to move around. It glides across hard floors, carpets, and rugs and can be used in three different modes, depending on how strong you want the suction.

Its cordless design means I didn't have to constantly switch plugs or drag cables around, making it perfect for a daily vacuum session.

One of its standout features is the suction power on all types of flooring. It picks up dust, crumbs and pet hair really effectively, and the LED headlights help you see the dirt you'd normally miss. It also has a solid anti-tangle brush design, which helps to reduce hair wrapping around the roller, a big win if you have pets or long hair.

I thought my Dyson was my favourite vacuum, and although I do love it, the price point of this Levoit vacuum makes it take the top spot. I've tried plenty of vacuum cleaners over the years.

Battery life is another strong point, and I can comfortably clean my entire house on Eco mode without rushing, and there will still be plenty of charge left. I also like that when it needs charging, you only need to remove the battery, rather than having to leave space for the entire vacuum to charge, like with the Dyson.

Emptying the bin couldn't be easier: all the dirt and hair come out at once, making it simple and hygienic.

However, like with all vacuums, there are a couple of downsides that I've noticed. It's not the strongest option for super-thick carpets or rugs, but it can struggle a little with deeply embedded pet hair compared to others I've tried. Also, swapping the cleaning heads can sometimes feel quite stiff and awkward, which slightly disrupts the flow of cleaning when you switch between tools.

Online reviews of the vacuum also agreed. One read: "Weak performance on carpets and limited suction on thicker rugs." Another wrote: "Struggles with thick rugs and fine dirt on carpets."

However, users have consistently praised its lightweight design, strong hard-floor suction and ease of use. One read: "Ideal for frequent, short cleaning rounds. It makes daily cleaning easy." Another said: "It's comfortable to carry from room to room and up and down stairs."

Standout features of the vacuum
  • Super lightweight and easy to manoeuvre
  • Strong suction on hard floors
  • LED lights help reveal hidden dust
  • Anti-tangle brush helps with hair and pet hair
  • Cordless design means cleaning it quickly and stress-free
  • Simple emptying system with minimal mess

The Levoit LVAC-300 retails for £249.99 on the Levoit UK website, including a two-year warranty and free shipping.

Customers can also purchase it from Amazon, where it is currently has 20% off at the time of writing, making the vacuum cleaner £199.49.

I've tried plenty of vacuums over the years, and although the Levoit models are my favourites, others have plenty of positives.

This includes Dyson's cordless vacuums, such as the V15, which offers strong suction on hard floors and carpets, along with an advanced filtration system that captures fine dust and allergens.

I particularly like the laser dust detection, which shows you all of the hidden dirt and hair in your home.

However, Dyson is often positioned in the premium category, with a V15 model available for £649.99.

Shark is also widely used in UK homes and sits in the mid- to premium-range. I used my Shark cordless vacuum for years, and loved its ability to fold up for easy storage. It also has a flexible body for cleaning under furniture, and it's more affordable than Dyson at £279.99. Shark has plenty of cordless vacuums to choose from, depending on your needs.

More budget-friendly options like VAX provide simpler designs at lower price points, but I did thoroughly enjoy using my VAX vacuum cleaner. It's widely available in UK retailers, and its simple design makes cleaning super easy. VAX has plenty to choose from, with prices starting at £119.99.
