LeBron James creates another NBA record with a never-before-seen achievement in Lakers playoff push
The Times Of India | May 8, 2026 12:39 PM CST

LeBron James added yet another milestone to his unmatched career Thursday night, and this one may stand alone for a long time. When the Los Angeles Lakers star checked into Game 2 against the Oklahoma City Thunder , he officially became the first player in NBA history to appear in 300 playoff games.

That number says plenty by itself. So does the timing. At 41 years old and without Luka Doncic available because of a hamstring injury, James has once again found himself carrying the weight of the Lakers’ postseason hopes. Nearly two decades into his playoff career, he is still logging heavy minutes, creating offense, and pushing Los Angeles through another difficult Western Conference run.

LeBron James achieves unprecedented NBA feat as Lakers continue playoff push

LeBron James reached the historic mark during his 19th postseason campaign, further separating himself from every other player in league history. Only nine players have ever crossed the 200-playoff-game mark. James now owns a category entirely by himself. For James, age is just a number.

The achievement arrives during another demanding playoff stretch for the four-time NBA champion. With Doncic sidelined since April 2 because of a Grade 2 hamstring strain, James has taken full control of the Lakers' offense. Through the postseason, he has averaged 23.3 points, 8.0 assists, and 6.7 rebounds while helping Los Angeles eliminate the Houston Rockets in the opening round.

Game 1 against Oklahoma City showed how thin the margin has become for the for the Purple and Gold. James finished with 27 points on 12-of-17 shooting while adding six assists, but the Thunder still rolled to a 108-90 victory behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, and one of the NBA’s most complete rosters.

Los Angeles needed more help offensively. Austin Reaves struggled through a difficult shooting night, while Rui Hachimura, Marcus Smart, and Deandre Ayton chipped in double figures but could not slow the defending champions.

LeBron James gets support from WWE legend

As James prepared for another must-win playoff game, support arrived from an unexpected corner of the sports world. Ric Flair publicly backed the Lakers star hours before tipoff.

“With Or Without Luka Doncic, I’m So Confident That LeBron James Will Prevail Tonight! You Can Sit On The Sidelines Or Be In The Game. WOOOOO!” Flair wrote.

The wrestling icon had already stirred conversation earlier in the week after criticizing Doncic’s absence and suggesting Lakers owner Jeanie Buss should consider moving on from the injured guard next season.

James, meanwhile, keeps doing what he has done for most of his career. He keeps playing deep into spring while the record book continues running out of space.
