No matter what criticism The Boys season 5 has been getting, one problem that Indian audiences are facing is the casual censorship. Now, some portion of it makes sense considering just how much cursing, gore and nudity really is in the show. However, that is not what's being censored at all.
The show is not for younger audiences and has never been. Neither the main Erik Kripke show nor its spin offs are appropriate for a younger audience. The censorship, interestingly, is being done when religion comes into play.
The Boys’ Indian Censorship is Taking Away From the Plot

Fans began noticing very quickly that something was very different from The Boys season 5 that the rest of the world saw to the one that Indians saw. From the very episode, a line gets censored where Sister Sage and Oh-Father have a conversation.
The latter refers to her as ‘Sister in Christ’ and her reply is “Um, no. I don’t believe in your sky maniac or his son.”
Both ‘Sky Maniac’ and ‘His Son’ get censored in the Indian version of the episode. Religion is a major theme in this season, especially because of Homelander’s new determination to become the new God of America. As such, all these little remarks add more to the character, their personality and how they actually view Homelander.
The most significant character in this dilemma was Firecracker. Her devotion to religion has always been a major part of her. The fifth episode of the season dives further into this because the more Homelander wishes to become God, the more she struggles.
As someone who was able to view and worship them differently, simply asking her to give up on her beliefs is not fair. However, she does it all for a man who only kills her in the end.
Homelander also has a dialogue, “Prophets are servants,” which also gets censored.
The fifth episode is where fans simply couldn't let go of the censorship because of just how powerful and important one scene was.
Earlier in the episode, it is established that Firecracker has a Jesus figurine that she has been carrying around everywhere as a child. It was part of why she was able to stand strong now. Later, she is looking at it longingly before throwing it in the trash. It is a symbol of her blind devotion to Homelander and how, despite it all, the choice was never hers to begin with.

For the Indian fans, this scene came off as extremely confusing. The Jesus figurine was completely blurred out throughout the scene, making it unclear as to why she was so somber and why the scene was shown in the first place. Without that scene, her arc remains incomplete.
Speaking to LadBible in 2024, Erik Kripke was prepared for something like this to happen. “You know certain countries, when you do this process of localisation, certain countries have their own broadcast standards that are generally impossible to overcome. Like in some cases it's literally illegal to overcome them."
He continued, "I knew that that's how it was going to be fixed. I agreed to it reluctantly. I had no choice. I actually sat down with the editor and tried to figure out any other possible way. We couldn't quite crack that nut.”
If this continues, we could be missing out on major plot points of the season. The Boys has always been very unapologetic with its political commentary, satire on capitalism, corruption and exploitation.
