Nashik. Nida Khan, accused in a case to sexual harassment and forced conversion in the Nashik unit of IT company TCS, has been arrested. Police gave this information. Nashik Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik said that Nida Khan was detained from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Thursday.
He said that a team of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Crime Branch, led by city police chief Praveen Pawar, was keeping an eye on Khan’s activities for the last few days. He said that Khan’s name is included in the case registered at Deolali Camp police station. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Nashik police is probing nine cases of molestation and harassment at the Nashik unit of the IT company.
After allegations of exploitation of women employees, attempts at forced conversion, hurting religious sentiments, molestation and mental harassment in the Nashik unit of TCS came to light, the SIT has registered nine FIRs and arrested eight people including a woman manager.
The SIT had started searching for Khan in different parts of Maharashtra. He is accused of targeting employees in WhatsApp groups, pressurizing them to eat non-vegetarian food etc. According to the FIR, Khan had allegedly asked the female employees to dress and behave as per Islamic traditions. Some complainants also alleged that they were forced or pressured to change their eating habits and adopt religious symbols.
Apart from sexual harassment and defamation provisions of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS), Khan has also been booked under relevant sections of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act as the complainant belongs to the Scheduled Caste. On April 18, she had filed a petition in the Nashik court for anticipatory bail and interim protection from arrest, citing her pregnancy.
The court rejected his anticipatory bail plea on May 2. TCS has clarified that it has a long standing zero tolerance policy for any form of harassment and coercion and the employees allegedly involved in sexual harassment at the Nashik office have been suspended.
