Royal Challengers Bengaluru etched their name into the IPL history books for the wrong reasons in the rain-affected 2026 match against Lucknow Super Giants at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Thursday.
The defending champions went on to face a nine-run defeat via the DLS method following a ferocious batting show from Mitchell Marsh. The Australian all-rounder piled on 111 off 56 balls and simply tore apart the RCB bowling in the rain-hit 19-over match.
Marsh’s century not only kept the LSG playoff hopes alive but also placed the RCB into an unwanted part of the IPL record book as they have now conceded the most centuries in the history of the tournament. Marsh became the 15th unique batter to register a century against RCB in the IPL and as a whole, RCB bowlers have conceded 16 centuries to date, more than any other side.
RCB's Unwanted IPL Record
Teams to Concede Most Centuries in IPL
- Royal Challengers Bengaluru - 16 centuries conceded (15 batters)
- Sunrisers Hyderabad - 14 centuries conceded (14 batters)
- Kolkata Knight Riders - 14 centuries conceded (12 batters)
- Mumbai Indians - 14 centuries conceded (11 batters)

Mitchell Marsh Destroys RCB Bowling Attack
The game had to be reduced to 19-overs per side due to multiple rain stoppages at Lucknow but despite all the interruptions, Marsh continued to play aggressive from the start, not letting the RCB bowlers settle at all.
He smashed 9 boundaries and as many sixes throughout his devastating innings and completed his century in just 49 balls which turned out to be the quickest LSG century in the history of IPL, bettering the score registered by Rishabh Pant against RCB last season which had taken 54 balls.
LSG captain Pant also chipped in with a cameo with the bat, scoring 32* off 10 deliveries, and added a crucial 70-run partnership along with Nicholas Pooran (38 off 23 deliveries). LSG ultimately posted 209/3 in 19-overs and were given a target of 213 by RCB according to DLS.
RCB Fight Back But Fall Short
RCB got off to a sticky start to their chase. Mohammed Shami dismissed Jacob Bethell in the first over while Prince Yadav produced a peach to send Virat Kohli back cheaply.
It was 9 for 2 and the chasing side was under severe pressure. However, skipper Rajat Patidar along with Devdutt Padikkal pulled them back into the game.
Patidar hammered his way to a well-crafted 61, while Padikkal chipped in with a handy 34. Their 95-run partnership helped RCB stage a fightback in a difficult chase.
The game took a turn again when Pant brought Prince Yadav back into the attack. The lanky pacer got the scalps of Padikkal ( caught and bowled) and Jitesh Sharma to put LSG on top again. Patidar fell soon after due to a brilliant catch by Aiden Markram running in from deep cover.
Late fireworks from Tim David, Krunal Pandya and Romario Shepherd kept RCB in the hunt. Krunal finished 28 while Shepherd made 23. However, with 20 to get of the last over, Digvesh held his nerve to deny RCB the win by picking up the crucial wicket of David in the final over of the game.
The victory ended LSG's 6 game losing streak and gave them their first home win of IPL 2026.
