In a notable achievement for federal agencies monitoring the nexus between organized crime and narcotics, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) successfully presented Salim Dola, a high-profile associate of fugitive don Dawood Ibrahim, in a Kila court on Friday. Following a brief hearing where the agency detailed the progress of its ongoing investigation, the court remanded Dola to 14 days of judicial custody. NCB officials brought Dola under tight security. After completing initial questioning, the NCB did not request further transit or departmental custody, leading the magistrate to place Dola in judicial custody. Images from the scene show NCB officials escorting Dola out of the court premises immediately after the order was issued. He will remain in a local correctional facility while legal proceedings continue.

Dola's Alleged Role in International Drug Trafficking

Dola is suspected of managing international drug trafficking routes that funnel illicit funds back into the underworld syndicate. This action is part of a broader crackdown by Indian agencies on remaining members of Dawood Ibrahim's network. By securing Dola's custody, the NCB aims to further destabilize the financial operations of the syndicate active in Maharashtra. Previously, on April 30, Dola was brought to the NCB office in Mumbai after being granted a two-day transit remand by the Patiala House Court. This high-profile transfer followed a successful operation by the NCB, marking the end of Dola's years as a fugitive. Reportedly, he had been operating from Turkey, where he was believed to be managing the international drug trafficking interests of the 'D-Company'. His arrest was made possible through coordinated efforts between international and Indian intelligence agencies.

Court Proceedings and Legal Representation

Dola was initially presented at the Patiala House Court in Delhi, which granted the NCB a two-day transit remand to bring him to Mumbai. Upon arrival, he was presented at the NCB's Mumbai regional unit under strict security measures.

Legal Challenges Ahead for Dola

Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Manish Gupta from the NCB requested the transit remand for Salim Dola, who has been arrested in connection with a 2023 case. Lawyers Shariyan Mukherjee and Akash represented Dola and opposed the transit remand application. It was also noted that a Look Out Circular (LOC) had been issued against Dola, although the date of issuance was not specified. Dola had traveled to Turkey in 2020, and his lawyer raised questions about his potential involvement in the case, which was registered in 2023. Dola has been outside India since 2020.
