Emmerdale villain 'spotted' in rival soap after murder clue and fans are floored

Fans of Emmerdale believe they've spotted an iconic villain in Coronation Street after this week's selfie clue. ITV Corrie viewers will know that villainous scaffolder Theo (played by James Cartwright) was discovered dead at the conclusion of the soap's murder week. This followed months of abuse that Theo inflicted upon his husband, Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce).

The police have since launched a murder investigation, with Corrie confirming six official suspects. They include Todd, George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), Gary Windass (Mikey North), Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby), Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins), and Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson).

George was the first suspect to face police questioning, followed by Gary, who recently deleted CCTV footage of himself vandalising Theo's work van. As pressure mounted on the scaffolder, his wife Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) gave a false alibi, which ultimately secured his release, reports the Liverpool Echo.

However, damning new evidence emerged at the end of Thursday's (May 7) episode. Sally (Sally Dynevor) and Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) were browsing through their photographs from the night of the murder, unaware that one image appeared to incriminate Gary.

A figure bearing a striking resemblance to Gary could be spotted in the background of Sally and Tim's selfie, walking away from the scaffolding near Theo and Todd's flat - the very location where the abuser was found dead. However, some viewers now believe the mysterious figure wasn't Gary at all.

While some spot a likeness to Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard), many others are convinced that the silhouette bears a striking resemblance to Emmerdale villain Joe Tate (Ned Porteous). These viewers believe that the possible cameo could be linked to Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances Brown), who was spotted fleeing the van of Joe's right-hand man, Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), during the Corriedale crossover.

"Just watched today's episode. Anyone worked out who this is in the background?" one person wrote on a Facebook fan page. Someone else replied, "Looks like Joe from Emmerdale," and another agreed, "I thought that too!"

A third said, "Another crossover?" with another viewer similarly sharing, "If it is Joe Tate, maybe there might now be an explanation as to why Jodie ended up in Corrie. She 'escaped' from a car with a USB during the Corriedale crossover, didn't she?"

A fifth fan echoed the sentiment, saying: "I thought Joe Tate too!" with another commenting: "Probably lol. [He] seems to have a finger in everyone's pie lol."

Corrie producer Kate Brooks has already confirmed that audiences will discover Jodie's link to Emmerdale legend Graham. "We will absolutely reveal what went on between them and what Graham's role was in it all. Keep a lookout for it, because it's story that goes on to be really big as we get into spring and summer. There's a lot of drama for the Platts coming up!" she teased.

Was Joe Tate spotted in Weatherfield last week, and could his presence be connected to Jodie? Only time will tell.

Emmerdale airs weekday nights at 8pm on ITV1 and STV, while Coronation Street airs weekday nights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and STV as part of ITV's new soap power hour scheduling pattern for Coronation Street and Emmerdale
