As soon as the IPL 2026 season ends, the Indian cricket team will once again become active in international cricket. But this time when Team India will enter the field, some new faces can also be seen in it. A report has claimed that there may be a change in the T20 captaincy of Team India and Shreyas Iyer may become the captain in place of Suryakumar Yadav. But this is not the only change going to happen, but some newness may also be seen in the coaching staff. According to the report, Team India is going to get a new coach, whose name is Sairaj Bahutule.
Bahule will be a part of Team India
A report in Cricbuzz has revealed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will soon appoint former spinner Sairaj Bahutule. team india Is going to be a part of the coaching staff. Preparations are underway to include former spinner of Team India and Mumbai cricket team Bahutule as spin bowling coach in the Indian team. The board has also discussed this matter with Bahule, while he has also had a discussion with head coach Gautam Gambhir, only after which it has been agreed to appoint him.
Sairaj Bahutule is currently associated as the spin bowling coach of Punjab Kings in IPL 2026. Gautam Gambhir is very impressed with Bahutule's work as a spin coach. Earlier, he has also been a part of Rajasthan Royals, while being the spin bowling coach at the National Cricket Academy, he has been seen with Team India many times for different series. Obviously his coaching resume is very strong and he is also familiar with the set-up of Team India. In such a situation, if he wants to join Team India, then for this he will have to separate from Punjab Kings, in which there does not seem to be any major problem.
Why is BCCI taking this decision?
But why does Team India need a spin bowling coach at this time? The main reason for this is the need for new spinners in the Test format. In fact, in the last decade, the responsibility of the Indian spin department was handled very well by Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. But now Ashwin has retired and Jadeja also does not look very effective. Also, at present no new spinner seems to be making an impact in Test cricket, the result of which was also seen in the team's defeat against South Africa. In such a situation, the responsibility of preparing new spinners will be on Bahule.
How was Bahule's career?
53 year old Sairaj Bahutule has played test matches for Team India. The career of this former leg spinner was not very long and he could play only 2 test matches. During this period he took only 3 wickets, whereas in 8 ODI matches he got 2 wickets. But many have proved to be big players in domestic cricket. Bahutule, who has played for teams like Mumbai, Vidarbha, Andhra Pradesh, played 188 matches in first class cricket and took 630 wickets and also scored more than 6000 runs at an average of 31.
