First and foremost, if someone is blackmailing or threatening you online, do not respond to them. Avoid engaging in any kind of conversation and block that person immediately.
Before blocking the account, do not forget to take screenshots of all the threatening messages, chats, emails or photos sent by the blackmailer.
These screenshots and records can serve as important evidence while filing a complaint with cyber authorities or police.
After collecting evidence, call the cyber crime helpline number 1930 and report the incident immediately.
You can also file a complaint online through the official National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal: cybercrime.gov.in.
Apart from reporting online, you can also go to your nearest police station and lodge an FIR or complaint against the blackmailer.
Remember, remaining silent out of fear only emboldens cyber criminals. The best way to protect yourself and others is to take legal action immediately.
