Fire safety awareness campaign was conducted on Friday in Harla village under Dhanrua block. The objective of this campaign was to make the villagers aware about fire prevention and to be alert about fire incidents occurring during the summer season. A large number of villagers, women and children were present in the program. During the campaign, the people present were told in detail about the main causes of fire and measures to prevent it. District Fire Inspector Manjeet Singh said that even a small carelessness during summer can lead to a major accident. Especially the chances of fire due to cooking gas, electrical short circuit, dry grass in the fields and burning beedis and cigarettes are high.
Made aware through songs
The special feature of the program was that people were made aware through songs and cultural programs. Artists presented songs to fire prevention and gave a message to the people to be alert. Through songs, it was told that instead of panicking in case of fire, immediately inform the people nearby and inform the fire department. The villagers were also told that sand, water and primary fire fighting equipment should always be available in their homes. Also, children were advised to keep away from matchsticks and flammable items. Villagers appreciated the campaign. The villagers involved in the campaign said that such programs should be organized continuously in the villages so that awareness among the people can be increased and the loss due to incidents like fire can be reduced. Local people said that incidents of fire often occur during the summer season, hence such information can prove to be very useful.
