Mangaluru: A man rescued by a local organisation in the city has been identified as an accused in a murder case registered in Tamil Nadu, police said.

The man, who was rescued on November 25, 2025, was found lying helpless on a roadside following a public complaint. He was in a severely injured condition with multiple wounds and infections, due to which he was unable to walk. He was shifted to a hospital and provided medical treatment by a local organisation identified as White Dows institution.

After his condition improved, he underwent counselling during which he reportedly identified himself as Anish Kumar. He also claimed that his mother, Radha, was working in the canteen of a hospital in Tamil Nadu. Based on this information, police conducted verification. However, during inquiry, his mother stated that she has only one daughter and said she did not know any person named Anish Kumar.

Following this discrepancy, Mangaluru police contacted Ernael police station in Tamil Nadu. During the verification, it was revealed that a murder case had been registered against him.

According to Tamil Nadu police, Anish Kumar is accused of killing his friend after attacking him with a stone following a dispute. He had reportedly gone absconding after the incident and evaded arrest. It has also been stated that he had worked in the dock areas of Mangaluru after fleeing.

Tamil Nadu police have now arrived in Mangaluru and are carrying out the process of taking custody of the accused with necessary legal documentation. The man is currently under police supervision in Mangaluru, and further investigation is in progress.
