Traffic regulations around Delhi's IGI Airport have now been made stricter than ever before. A new high-tech camera-equipped system has been implemented in this area, aimed at enhancing road safety, ensuring compliance with traffic rules, and alleviating traffic congestion. This zone constitutes one of the country's busiest airport precincts, witnessing the daily movement of thousands of vehicles. Consequently, this measure has been adopted to facilitate more effective traffic management.

The Delhi Traffic Police, in collaboration with Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL-GMR), has implemented an automated e-challan system in the vicinity of the airport. A key feature of this system is that it does not require the physical presence of traffic police personnel on the spot. The entire process will be executed through cameras and digital systems, thereby enhancing both transparency and operational efficiency.

**ANPR Cameras Installed**
Under this project, 14 high-definition Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras have been installed to date. These cameras read and record vehicle license plates in real-time. Approximately 35 additional cameras are slated for installation in the near future. Once completed, nearly the entire road network surrounding the airport will be brought under surveillance.

**Which Violations Will Attract an E-Challan?**
This new system is capable of automatically detecting various types of traffic violations, including overspeeding, unauthorized parking, driving on the wrong side of the road, triple riding on two-wheelers, riding without a helmet, crossing the stop line, and jumping red lights. The moment a rule is violated, an e-challan is issued instantly. The entire system is technology-driven; when a vehicle violates a rule, the camera captures its image and details. This information is transmitted to the National Informatics Centre (NIC) system, where it is cross-referenced with the Delhi Traffic Police's database. Subsequently, officials review the footage, and if the violation is confirmed, an e-challan is issued to the vehicle owner.
