The Italian Open continues today, following a busy Friday at the Foro Italiaco. Novak Djokovic made his comeback, but suffered a shock defeat to qualifier Dino Prizmic.
There was another shock defeat for number 6 seed Alex de Minaur, who fell to a three-set loss against home favourite Matteo Arnaldi. De Minaur showed his frustration through the maych, smashing his racket, just before Arnaldi served for the match.
Saturday brings British interest, with Cameron Norrie opening his tournament against Thiago Agustin Tirante. Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka are also due to be in action after the weather delayed their matches against Sebastian Ofner and Sorana Cristea.
Sabalenka is one of the players who said she would support boycotting the Grand Slam tournaments if it was the only way their requests around prize money, player welfare schemes, and decision-making were heard. Coco Gauff, who would also be in support of the boycott is in action against Solano Sierra on Saturday.
British No. 1 Emma Raducanu does not hold the same view. The 2021 US Open champion withdrew from the Italian Open approximately half an hour after completing her pre-tournament media obligations on Tuesday.
Players will have one eye on the French Open, with the tournament at Roland Garros beginning on 18 May.
