Delhi Capitals have received yet another big blow in IPL 2026 on 8 May just a day after suffering a massive eight-wicket loss at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders in the 51st match of the season. The loss was DC’s seventh in eleven matches and saw them being edged closer to the playoff elimination.
Having asked to bat first at their home ground Delhi Capitals faltered at capitalizing on the conditions. Opener Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul provided the hosts a blistering start as the pair added 49 runs in just the first five overs, scoring 50 and 23 runs respectively.
However the middle order faltered yet again, with Nitish Rana scoring 8, Sameer Rizvi a mere 3, Tristan Stubbs 2 and captain Axar Patel just 11. Delhi lost the steam quickly.
An exceptional effort of 39 runs from Ashutosh Sharma had put Delhi back in the game at a point however the constant fall of wickets at the other end could not let Delhi score a fighting total. Delhi Capitals concluded their innings with a score of 142/8 in 20 overs.
Finn Allen's Century Powers KKR to Easy Win
Kolkata Knight Riders made light work of the chase and chased down the target within the first fifteen overs. After losing opener Ajinkya Rahane for 13 runs early in the innings Finn Allen completely changed the complexion of the game, smashing an incredible century.
Allen remained unbeaten on 100 and simply tore apart the Delhi bowlers right from the beginning while Cameron Green contributed a valuable unbeaten 33 to seal a crucial win for KKR.
KKR managed to chase the target with eight wickets in hand, strengthening their position further in the playoff contention.

Are Delhi Capitals Eliminated From IPL 2026?
Not officially, but the chances for the Delhi Capitals to make it to the top four is very unlikely at this point.
DC have eight points from eleven matches at this moment winning seven games and losing only four of their matches. They are languishing at the eighth position in the table and have three more league stage games left. Even if they win all the remaining three games Delhi can maximum reach fourteen points.
It is usually considered that one need fourteen or sixteen points to qualify for the playoff stages in the IPL therefore Delhi Capitals would now rely a lot on the results of the other games.
At the moment Sunrisers Hyderabad are at the top of the table with fourteen points followed by Punjab Kings with thirteen points, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans all have twelve points and are firm favorites to qualify for the playoff stages.
