YouTube has recently introduced a new and excellent feature for its mobile app users, allowing them to put an end to the endless scrolling of Shorts. The platform has provided Android and iPhone users with the option to set the Shorts feed timer to zero minutes, which effectively removes the main Shorts feed from the app interface. This feature is part of the 'Time Management' tools and is currently being rolled out globally. While Shorts will not disappear entirely—they may still appear in search results or subscription feeds—this update will eliminate the 'infinity scrolling' experience that often serves as a distraction.
This new option can help users reduce their screen time and make the app feel less cluttered. Additionally, it will give parents better control over the amount of time their children spend watching Shorts. Note that this setting is currently available only for the mobile app, not for desktop browsers or smart TVs.
How to Disable YouTube Shorts on Android and iPhone?
First, open the YouTube app on your smartphone.
Tap on your profile picture, located in either the top-right or bottom-right corner of the screen.
From there, go to 'Settings' and then select the 'Time Management' option.
Now, scroll down and locate the 'Shorts Feed Limit' toggle within the 'Daily Limits' section.
Turn this feature on and set the timer to zero minutes.
As soon as you enable this, YouTube will pause the Shorts feed, and the endless scrolling experience will be removed from the app.
Consequently, Shorts' recommendations may also disappear from the homepage.
After setting the time limit for Shorts to zero minutes, you will no longer be able to continuously scroll through Shorts on the YouTube app. However, Shorts may still appear in search results, subscription feeds, and via links sent or shared by friends. Users will also still be able to watch individual Shorts by opening them directly. YouTube also provides users with the option to manually bypass this limit if they wish to continue watching Shorts.
