New Delhi: The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has banned Vinesh Phogat from participating in the National Open Ranking Tournament, which will begin in Gonda on May 10. The competition was supposed to be an official comeback of Vinesh after she took a U-turn from retirement. The wrestler had announced her retirement after the conclusion of the Paris Olympics 2024.
The WFI also issued a show-cause notice to the wrestler and accused her of indiscipline and anti-doping rule violations. She is declared ineligible to compete in domestic events until June 26, 2026. Vinesh didn’t fulfil the mandatory six-month notice requirement for athletes making a comeback from retirement under the UWW Anti-Doping regulations.
