Tehran. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused the US of choosing the path of reckless military operations whenever the option of a diplomatic solution is available. BBC gave this information on Saturday. The Iranian people will never bow to pressure, Araghchi said in a post on Twitter. His statement came a day after both sides accused each other of launching attacks in the Strait of Hormuz and after the US fired on more Iranian ships. Despite the clashes, US President Donald Trump said the ceasefire remains intact.
Its aim is to facilitate negotiations to end the Iran war that began with the US and Israel in February. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Iran is expected to respond to the US proposals. “I hope this is a serious proposal and that’s what I really want,” Rubio said during a visit to Italy.
Iran continues to control the Strait of Hormuz and attacks US allies in the Gulf in retaliation for US and Israeli attacks. About 20 percent of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas is transported through this important waterway, the blockage of which has led to a huge surge in prices. Earlier this week, Trump launched and then halted a US military operation to help free nearly 2,000 ships stuck in the region since February.
The US is also maintaining a naval blockade of Iranian ports aimed at pressuring Iran to accept US conditions, a move that has angered Tehran. US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Friday that US forces disabled two Iranian-flagged empty oil tankers trying to enter an Iranian port in the Gulf of Oman in violation of the ongoing US blockade. The statement said the US military prevented them from entering Iran by firing precision shots at the chimneys of ships that did not follow the rules.
Centcom said US forces were blocking more than 70 tankers from entering or exiting Iranian ports. The US launched new attacks after clashes in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, for which both sides blamed each other. CENTCOM accused Iran of attacking three of its warships with missiles, drones and small boats in what it called an unprovoked attack.
US President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that the US destroyed several small boats, missiles and drones and said the Iranian attackers suffered heavy losses. Meanwhile, Iran’s top military command alleged that the US targeted an Iranian oil tanker and another ship approaching the Strait of Hormuz and carried out airstrikes on several coastal areas.
