The owner of Blue Gecko tailoring shop said international tourists previously preferred tailoring services in China, but are now shifting to Hoi An, citing a preference for handcrafted, one-of-a-kind garments over mass-produced products.
According to the Hoi An World Cultural Heritage Conservation Centertailoring in the town dates back around 200 years and has grown significantly in recent years, driven by the rise of express services.
The workforce is diverse, ranging from market-based tailors to boutique shops and home-based artisans, offering a wide range of styles and designs.
Hoi An’s tailoring industry has also earned international recognition, having produced garments for figures such as Queen Letizia of Spain and parliamentarians from multiple countries.
The craft was also showcased during APEC 2006 held in Da Nang and Hoi An.
Local tailors mark the 12th day of the 12th lunar month each year as the traditional anniversary of their craft.
