His party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) got a big political boost on Saturday when the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) decided to support government formation without any conditions. Along with this, Indian Muslim League (IUMLS) has also announced support. Now the number of MLAs in support of TVK has increased to 120, due to which Vijay's chances of becoming the Chief Minister have become quite strong.

The results of Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026 had already completely changed the politics of the state. For a long time, the main fight for power has been seen between DMK and AIADMK, but this time Vijay's party TVK surprised everyone by becoming the largest party, leaving behind both the big parties.

TVK was behind majority, now position strengthened with support

In the election results declared on May 4, TVK had won 108 seats. However, the party was 10 seats short of the required figure for majority. After this the political stir intensified and discussions started regarding the support of many parties.

First of all, five Congress MLAs supported TVK. After this, two MLAs each from CPI and CPM joined in, taking the support figure to 116. Now, after the support of VCK and IUMLS, the path to formation of Vijay's government is considered almost clear.

According to sources, an important meeting of VCK was held on Saturday evening, in which the final decision on supporting TVK was taken. In the meeting it was unanimously agreed to support Vijay's leadership. The special thing was that VCK decided to extend support without any conditions.

Discussion on Vijay becoming Chief Minister intensifies

There is now a strong discussion in political circles that Vijay can be the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. During the election campaign, he raised the issues of corruption, employment and youth prominently. This was the reason why his party, which entered the electoral fray for the first time, got tremendous support from the youth and urban voters.

Indications of preparations for government formation have also started coming from TVK side. Party leader Arjun expressed his gratitude to all the parties who supported him and said that now Vijay is ready to form the government and will try to live up to the public trust.

AIADMK Chief's statement increased speculation

Political speculation regarding government formation had intensified when AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami had made a post on social media congratulating the party that formed the new government. Many political analysts considered his statement as an indirect indication.

Palaniswami had said in his message that in the recently concluded 17th Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, various parties participated and the people gave their mandate. He extended his best wishes to the party that forms the government. After his statement, clear indications started emerging that the equations in the politics of the state are changing rapidly.

Political experts believe that if Vijay becomes the Chief Minister, it will be the beginning of a new era in Tamil Nadu politics.
