Marseille are growing 'frustrated' with Mason Greenwood's 'lack of effort' and even 'basic gratitude' in another worrying development concerning the former Manchester United forward. Greenwood, 24, moved to Marseille in 2024, putting pen to paper on a five-year contract after United agreed to sell him for a fee of approximately £27million.

Since his transfer to France, the England international has produced some impressive numbers, scoring 47 goals and registering 16 assists across 79 appearances. However, it's his behaviour off the pitch that has raised alarm bells, with Marseille becoming increasingly annoyed with Greenwood for not demonstrating adequate commitment and neglecting to show appreciation, according to L'Equipe.

It's alleged that Greenwood has remained in a 'world of his own', refusing to take part in French lessons mandated by the club, as English is spoken in the dressing room. Club officials are 'tired' of trying to explain matters to him, even implementing fines in an attempt to modify his approach.

There is now reportedly a club-wide rift developing, and his relationship with sporting director Medhi Benatia has broken down, with the two men said to be 'completely ignoring' each other on a daily basis. Greenwood is thought to be awaiting the inevitable outcome before a departure, but that isn't expected to be 'straightforward'.

Marseille had hoped to make a profit from a future sale of Greenwood, but his market value has fallen due to his inconsistent displays in the latter half of the season.

A return to the Premier League is widely considered to be off the table for Greenwood, though clubs from Serie A and La Liga are said to be keeping tabs on him.

Greenwood's last goal came in a 1-0 win over Toulouse on March 7, and he endured a torrid time in a 3-0 hammering at relegated Nantes in their most recent outing. He was dropped to the bench for a home fixture against Nice last month, stoking speculation that he has fallen out with head coach Habib Beye.

Beye, however, brushed aside such claims, maintaining that Greenwood has been held back by a minor injury.

"Mason we have looked at since the start of the week, he is very limited by the injury from Lille," Beye said. "It's been two games that he's played with a lot of pain, we can't put him in danger."

Marseille and Greenwood are next in action when they travel to Le Havre on Sunday, in what is a crucial fixture for the club as they look to secure European football for next season.
