Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, expressed his concerns on Saturday regarding the government's potential plans to increase petrol and diesel prices due to disruptions in supply caused by the ongoing conflict in West Asia. He highlighted that oil companies are reportedly incurring losses of around ₹30,000 crores each month, suggesting that consumers might soon face higher fuel prices.

Yadav pointed out that the recent revelations about the financial losses of oil companies indicate an attempt to recover these losses from the public's pockets. He drew parallels to the previous hikes in gas cylinder prices, stating that a rise in diesel and petrol costs is imminent. He mentioned reading about this in today's newspaper, criticizing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for promoting capitalism.

Speaking to reporters in Lucknow, Yadav reflected on the BJP's founding discussions regarding its secular stance, questioning its authenticity. He accused the party of abandoning its secular commitments in favor of capitalist interests, despite their claims of adhering to socialist ideologies.

In addition to his comments on fuel prices, Yadav raised concerns about the integrity of electronic voting machines (EVMs) on Saturday. He alleged that electronic devices, including smart meters, could be manipulated, undermining the democratic process. He emphasized that there should be no doubts in a democracy, labeling EVMs and other electronic tools as questionable.

Yadav expressed his support for traditional ballot voting, referencing a recent election in England. He asserted that whether it takes a year or a century, the transition away from EVMs will eventually occur.
