In a disturbing case from Prayagraj, a young man has been accused of murdering his minor girlfriend shortly after eloping with her. During police interrogation, he revealed that he felt pressured by her to marry, which led him to take drastic measures.
Details of the Crime
The accused, identified as 23-year-old Asmit Verma, allegedly strangled his girlfriend with her dupatta and inflicted multiple stab wounds with a knife. Following the murder, he disposed of her body in the bushes near the Sharda canal. Upon his arrest, he confessed to the crime and indicated the location where he had hidden the body.
Missing Since April 20
The 17-year-old girl had been reported missing since the night of April 20. Her family claimed that Asmit had lured her away. In response, her mother filed a kidnapping complaint against him at the Sarai Inayat police station.
Friendship Initiated on Instagram
The relationship between the girl and Asmit began on Instagram, where they exchanged likes and comments on each other's photos. As their communication progressed, the girl began pressuring Asmit for marriage. Unwilling to commit, he devised a plan to elope with her. When she arrived with jewelry and money, he attacked her with a knife and subsequently strangled her.
Confession of the Accused
After the complaint was filed, police launched a search for Asmit. They apprehended him based on reliable information. During questioning, he admitted to the murder, stating that the pressure from his girlfriend regarding marriage was the reason he decided to eliminate her.
Discovery of the Body
Asmit, a resident of Jalalpur village in the Bahariya police area, was taken into custody for questioning. He eventually broke down and confessed to killing Khushi Pal, revealing that he had disposed of her body in a forested area near the Sharda canal. Following his directions, police conducted a search operation and recovered the decomposed body of the girl.
