Friends, in today’s modern era, Instagram is the biggest social media app for watching reels, which has millions of users, there is a special news for Instagram users, Meta has officially stopped support for end-to-end encryption (E2EE) in Instagram direct messages from May 8, 2026. This means that chats on Instagram will no longer have the same privacy protections.

Meta had already informed users about this decision through a blog post released in March.

What does this mean for users?

• Instagram chats will no longer be completely private.

• Messages may be more vulnerable to hackers and unauthorized access.

• People with good technical knowledge can probably access the conversation.

• Users are being asked to save their important chats and media for security.

Why did Meta remove end-to-end encryption?

This decision has been taken due to concerns to the safety of children. Earlier this year, a New Mexico jury ordered Meta to pay $375 million in damages in online safety cases involving children.

By removing E2EE, Meta can now scan messages when necessary to detect harmful content such as child exploitation, grooming, harassment, and other illegal activities.

Will this affect WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger also?

Meta has not announced any such changes for WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger. However, this new update will have a direct impact on Instagram users.
