Armed police have cordoned off a section of one of Liverpool's busiest streets as emergency services are on scene on Seel Street near the Ropewalks Hotel. Images from the scene show a significant number of emergency personnel, with multiple police cars, matrix vans, and fire engines on the street. Police reportedly arrived at around 6.10pm in full tactical gear and carrying riot shields, a witness told the Liverpool Echo.

Merseyside Police said: "We are in attendance on Seel Street, Liverpool this evening (Saturday 9 May) as part of enquiries to locate a man who had been reported missing. We were called shortly after 4pm to a report the man had been seen in the area. Upon arrival, threats were made by the man to officers from inside a hotel room on Seel Street and officers have put a containment in place as a precaution while they engage with the man."
